FAMA Kings Cup World Champiopnships- 1999
December 6th 1999 witnessed another international MuayThai extravaganza, with MuayThai groups and individuals all around the world celebrating his Majesty The King’s 72nd Birthday. The International Federation of MuayThai (IFMA) and the Federation of Muaythai Amateur (FAMA) decided to celebrate His Majesties birthday with their own event.
The IFMA Kings Cup World championship was staged over seven days with forty two countries in attendance. Following on from the previous years success with the Kings Cup, the IFMA Cup witnessed some of the highest standards of Amateur MuayThai displayed by those present.
An event of this magnitude would have not been possible were it not for the unrelentless efforts of all the officials of IFMA and all the participating country representatives present. With Twelve weight divisions there was much at stake; individual Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in contention meant many boxers would excel with their own personal desire for their pursuit of excellence. The event was fully sanctioned under the Sport authority of Thailand , Olympic Council of Thailand ( The President of the Olympic himself opened the event) and the closing was down by the Privy counselor of His Majesty the King. The President of the Olympic Council of Thailand and the Governor of the Sport authority of Thailand presided over the opening ceremony. The IFMA Cup for best team went to Thailand, with individual recognition for best boxer going to Olli Antila of Finland andCraig O’Flynn received the trophy for best WAI KRU. The highlight of the competition was the inclusion of Junior and female demonstration fights in the competition. A further highlight was when representatives from around the world joined in with Thailand to sing His Majesty’s Birthday song.

Events like this will only continue to promote the genuine attributes that MuayThai has to offer, not just the rewards gained by the boxers. “ One World, One MuayThai” will become a realization. Many congratulations go out to all the boxers who won individual medals with extended congratulations to the Gold medalists for each weight division. Many meetings have been held especially just to push Muaythai as a full medal sport into the Sea games, and also the inclusion of Muaythai into the important General Assembly of International Sport Federation.
Beside the 7 days of competition there was a FAMA (Asian Federation and executive board meeting) and IFMA Executive and world meeting.
