Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan has recently been elected as the President of the Federation of Amateur Muaythai of Asia (FAMA). The FAMA is the oldest Continental Amateur Muaythai Body and is the founding member federation of the IFMA. The current president, H.E. General Vorayudh Mesommonta, has announced his retirement due to physical illness.

Dr. Tapsuwan, also Former Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, is officially announced as the new Acting President of the FAMA by the Executive Board.Elections will be held at the upcoming World championships in Kazakhstan in August 2003

Furthermore, Mr. Karim Massimov, Advisor to Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, has been appointed as the 1st Vice President of the FAMA and IFMA. Mr. Massimov has been holding a high rank position in the Kazakh Government. He has also provided continuous support toward the Muaythai Community.

General Vorayudh Mesommonta hosted a special reception for this occasion. Also present at reception, Mr. Santipharp Intaraphartn gave a emotional speech to thank General Mesommonta for his selfless dedication to Muaythai and pledge that if he is to become the new President of the Amateur Muaythai Association of Thailand (AMAT), this Association, under his command, shall work along side with the IFMA and FAMA in all future activities and AMAT ,FAMA,IFMA will always work hand in hand
