Day 8 - WMC IFMA World Muaythai Championships

Day 8 – 4th December Finals

The penultimate day of the 2007 World Championships saw many VIPs travel to the Fashion Island Arena to witness the first half of the grand finals and soak up the exciting atmosphere, among them the Secretary General and Assistant Secretary General of the International Kendo Federation and the Vice President of the World Association Of Kickboxing Organizations, both fellow members of GAISF, showing that Muaythai under IFMA is very much an accepted member of the world sporting community.

The female finals were nothing short of fantastic, all going the full four rounds in exciting displays of Muaythai technique. Stnizlko Lksano of Russia took on Thailand’s Ratchadaporn Wihanthammae, the Thai taking the points decision, Russia’s Bella Kolodexh defeated Florina Petcu of USA in a great bout,   Karla Banitez secured a points win over Dutch fighter Jemyno Betrian. Russian Valentina Shevchenko  defeated Thailand’s Vipavat Lasuwan, South frica’s Lomecz Vohim lost a points decision to Russia’s Galina Mitrenko, Magdalena Kowalczyk of Sweden won a tough fight over South Africa’s Sarah Mare, Canada’s Milsa Misiuda did enough to defeat Mila Marjamaki  of Finland and Lesley Dad of Belgium secured a close points win over Australia’s Sindy Maricic.

The male A fights were action packed also, with the first three fights being won by Thailand, until Andrei Kulebin of Belarus defeated Thailand’s Preecha Laoyonkam in a tough fight. After that it was Ukraine’s Kyshenko vs Dias Kassnov of Kazakhstan, the Ukrainian taking the win on points, before Kazakhstan’s Almaz Kassenov scored a win over Russia’s Magomed Magomedov in one of the best fights of the day. In the last two fights Ukraine defeated Belarus, then Belarus came back again with a win over England.

In the evening IFMA hosted a spectacular Gala Dinner at the Miracle Grand to celebrate the Championships and GAISF Martial Arts meeting, which opened by HE Dr Suvit Yodmani, Minister of Tourism & Sports, Thailand and attended by the President and Director General of GAISF, and representatives of the GAISF recognized martial arts Federations.

The Gala Dinner included Thai cultural performances, a World Muaythai Aerobics Contest and the presentation of awards for outstanding contributions to the development of the sport. One of these awards was for the humanitarian work of the Ukraine Muaythai Federation, which works closely with homeless youth and orphans.

The evening was a fantastic way for the IFMA family to join together to reflect on the success  of the Championships thus far and look forward to the coming finals spectacular at Sanam Luang.
